A lung-specific, sulfonium lipid nanoparticle (slnp) formulation of incyclinide for the treatment of ali/ards - project summary/abstract cmtx biotech is developing a novel therapeutic for treating acute respiratory distress syndrome (ards) in sepsis patients. Sepsis affects at least 1.7 million adults in the united states annually, leading to nearly 270,000 deaths, and accounts for more than 50% of hospital mortality. Ards is a devastating complication of severe sepsis, with approximately 6–7% of septic patients progressing to ards, which carries mortality rates exceeding 40%. Despite advances in supportive care such as lung-protective ventilation, prone positioning, neuromuscular blockade, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, there are no fda-approved drugs to treat sepsis-induced ards. There remains an urgent need for safe and effective therapeutics that protect the lung, limit progression to ards, and improve survival. Cmtx biotech is advancing a proprietary intravenous sulfonium lipid nanoparticle (slnp) formulation of chemically modified tetracycline-3 (CMT-3/slnp), designed for lung-targeted delivery. CMT-3 is a clinical-stage, non-antibiotic tetracycline derivative with pleiotropic activity as a matrix metalloproteinase (mmp) modulator and anti-inflammatory agent.
