By accessing or using MentionFox ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. MentionFox provides a software-as-a-service platform for social listening, people intelligence, and outreach automation.
By using MentionFox, you grant us permission to:
If you do not wish to be listed publicly, email privacy@mentionfox.com and we will remove you within 5 business days.
Plain English first. MentionFox checks claims a person has already made in public — a biography, a talk, a filing, a profile — against the public record, and shows you the source for each one. It is built for journalism, investor and counterparty diligence, and checking a media source before you quote them.
You must not use MentionFox, or anything it produces, to decide any of the following about a person:
Why this matters, and why a disclaimer alone is not the point. Under the US Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681a(d), (f) and (h)) a report assembled about a person and used for those decisions is a "consumer report", and whoever assembles it is a "consumer reporting agency" with duties MentionFox does not perform — including the § 1681k notice and accuracy obligations, dispute handling, and adverse-action procedures. California's Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act carries a statutory minimum of $10,000 per violation with no proof of actual damages required. MentionFox is not a consumer reporting agency, does not follow those procedures, and its reports are not consumer reports. We therefore do not sell it for those uses, do not describe it as a background-check or screening service, and do not permit it to be used that way.
MentionFox is not a background-check service. It does not verify identity, does not search criminal records for screening purposes, and does not confirm employment or education history for eligibility decisions. If you need any of that, use a consumer reporting agency that operates under the FCRA and can give the person the rights the law gives them.
This applies to everyone who touches the output. If you export, forward, embed or resell anything MentionFox produces, the same restriction travels with it, and you are responsible for the use anyone downstream makes of it. Using the Service for a decision listed above is a breach of these terms and grounds for termination without refund.
One more thing, because it is the honest part. Public claims are not a complete picture of a person. A MentionFox report tells you whether something someone said in public matches the public record. It does not tell you whether they are good at a job, trustworthy, or right for your team, and it should never be treated as though it did.
You agree to use MentionFox responsibly and in compliance with all applicable laws.
