How it works
MentionFox's social listening module continuously monitors conversations on Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Quora, HackerNews, forums, news sites, podcasts, review platforms, TikTok, YouTube, Substack, Medium, and dozens of other platforms. When you find a relevant prospect or company mention, MentionFox enriches the profile with firmographic and contact data. You can save leads directly to your outreach queue without manual research.
MentionFox drafts outreach messages based on the prospect's activity, company profile, and conversation context. Before any email is sent, you review the draft in your Outlook compose window, edit for tone and specificity, and manually click send. MentionFox never auto-sends—every email is a deliberate, user-approved action. This ensures brand safety and message quality.
Once sent through Outlook, emails appear in your sent folder with MentionFox metadata attached, including the original source mention, prospect enrichment, and campaign tag. You can track opens, replies, and engagement directly in Outlook, then use that feedback to refine future outreach templates and targeting parameters in MentionFox.
What you can do
B2B SaaS Sales: Finding Early-Stage Adopters
A sales development representative at a developer tools company uses MentionFox to monitor HackerNews, Reddit's r/programming, and relevant Slack communities for mentions of competing products or feature requests that align with their solution. When a prospect discusses a pain point in a thread, MentionFox surfaces their profile with LinkedIn enrichment. The SDR reviews the auto-drafted email in Outlook, personalizes it with a specific quote from the prospect's comment, and sends it. The prospect recognizes themselves in the message and engages. Over a month, the team sources 15 qualified conversations using this approach.
Venture Capital: Investor Research and Outreach
A venture capital analyst researches target LPs and growth-stage companies using MentionFox's investor database of 52,000 profiles and web mention tracking. The analyst discovers a potential investor who recently published an industry thesis on a firm's blog and mentions relevant portfolio exits in Twitter/X. MentionFox enriches the investor profile with verified contact details and recent activity signals. The analyst drafts an introduction email in MentionFox, reviews it in Outlook, personalizes it with a reference to the published thesis, and sends. This context-aware, data-backed outreach dramatically increases response rates compared to cold email templates.
Recruitment: Identifying Passive Candidates
A technical recruiter uses MentionFox's candidate vetting module to monitor engineering forums, GitHub discussions, and tech conferences for engineers who mention skills, interests, or career questions relevant to an open role. When a strong prospect emerges, MentionFox pulls their enriched profile including verified LinkedIn, GitHub activity, and recent mentions. The recruiter composes a personalized message in Outlook highlighting why the role aligns with that candidate's stated interests, and sends. The recruiter's outreach feels personally relevant rather than templated, improving candidate response and quality of inbound.
How to connect
- Step 1: Install MentionFox and Verify Your Outlook Account. Log into MentionFox with your account credentials. Navigate to Settings > Integrations and select Outlook. You'll be prompted to authenticate your Outlook account (Office 365 or Outlook.com). Approve the permission request, which grants MentionFox the ability to compose emails and attach metadata. Your authentication is stored securely and can be revoked at any time from Outlook's app permissions settings.
- Step 2: Create Your First Outreach Campaign. In MentionFox, set up a new campaign by selecting your target audience (LinkedIn filters, social listening keywords, investor criteria, or candidate skills). MentionFox will populate a list of prospects with enriched contact data. For each prospect, review the underlying mention or activity that triggered the match. Select which prospects to include in your outreach queue. MentionFox automatically generates a personalized draft for each prospect.
- Step 3: Preview and Send from Outlook. Open your Outlook inbox. MentionFox creates a compose draft for each prospect in your queue. Review the subject line, body copy, and enrichment metadata (source mention, company info, signal strength). Edit the message as needed to match your voice and add any specific details. Click send. The email is dispatched from your Outlook account with full compliance and authentication. Your sent folder captures the email thread for future reference.
- Step 4: Monitor and Refine. As replies come in to your Outlook inbox, MentionFox tags them with campaign and prospect metadata. Track open rates, reply rates, and conversation sentiment in your MentionFox dashboard. Identify which source platforms, prospect segments, or message templates generate the highest engagement. Use these insights to adjust your social listening keywords, enrichment filters, or outreach personalization for the next campaign, creating a continuous improvement loop.
Without MentionFox
Without MentionFox, teams manually search social platforms, forums, and news sites for relevant prospects, then cross-reference enrichment data from multiple tools, manually draft generic outreach emails, and send them without context-aware personalization. This process is time-consuming, error-prone, and generates low response rates because prospects don't recognize the relevance of your message.
