How it works
Set up listening rules in MentionFox to track keywords, brands, competitors, or industry topics across social networks, forums, podcasts, and news sites. MentionFox identifies new conversations in real time, extracting context, sentiment, and speaker profile data. Each qualified mention is scored and ready for action.
MentionFox enriches each mention with speaker demographics, posting history, company affiliation, and inferred buying intent. You see not just what someone said, but who they are and what they care about. This layer of intelligence ensures you're reaching decision-makers and prospects with genuine, timely relevance.
When a mention meets your criteria, MentionFox sends a webhook payload to Customer.io containing the prospect's details and context. Customer.io receives the trigger and instantly enrolls the prospect in a pre-built journey—welcome sequence, product demo, or competitive comparison—with zero manual steps. Every email is previewed and approved by you before send; MentionFox never auto-sends outreach.
What you can do
Sales Development: Catch prospects actively discussing your category
A prospect on Reddit asks, 'What's the best tool for B2B lead enrichment?' MentionFox detects the mention and enriches the poster's profile (company, title, LinkedIn URL). A webhook fires to Customer.io, enrolling them in your 'Inbound Interest' journey. Within hours, they receive a personalized, value-first email referencing their question and introducing a relevant resource. The prospect sees your brand as thoughtful, not spammy, because the timing and context are genuine.
Investor Relations: Track and follow up with investors discussing your space
MentionFox's investor database of 52,000+ records pairs with listening to identify when VCs or angels mention trends, competitors, or needs aligned with your product. A webhook triggers a Customer.io journey that sends a thoughtful, insights-led email—not a pitch—positioning you as a knowledgeable founder or operator. By the time they're ready to talk, they already know your voice.
Product Marketing: Monitor competitor mentions and reach switcher candidates
MentionFox listens for complaints, feature requests, or dissatisfaction with competitors. When someone posts, 'I wish [competitor] had better integrations,' MentionFox enriches their profile and sends a webhook to Customer.io. A 'Feature Comparison' journey launches, delivering a case study and product walkthrough video to someone already questioning their current vendor. You're reaching them at peak openness, with proof points ready.
How to connect
- Step 1: Generate a Customer.io webhook URL. In Customer.io, navigate to Integrations or Webhooks and create a new incoming webhook. Customer.io will provide you with a unique HTTPS endpoint URL. Copy this URL—you'll paste it into MentionFox to establish the connection. This URL is the bridge: MentionFox will POST prospect data here whenever a listening rule is triggered.
- Step 2: Configure MentionFox listening rules and set webhook target. In MentionFox, create or refine a listening rule for keywords, brands, or topics that indicate sales-ready intent (e.g., 'looking for a B2B intelligence tool' or 'evaluating lead platforms'). In the rule's action settings, enable webhook delivery and paste the Customer.io endpoint URL. You can customize the payload to include prospect name, email, company, source platform, mention text, and enriched signals like inferred budget or timeline.
- Step 3: Map MentionFox data to Customer.io attributes. Decide how MentionFox fields map to Customer.io user attributes and event properties. For example: MentionFox's 'speaker_email' → Customer.io 'email'; 'inferred_title' → Customer.io 'job_title'; 'mention_source' → custom property 'discovery_channel'. This ensures prospects land in Customer.io with clean, usable profile data and context, so journeys can personalize by source, intent level, or company size.
- Step 4: Build and test your Customer.io journey. In Customer.io, create a journey triggered by the webhook event from MentionFox (e.g., 'MentionFox Lead Detected'). Design a sequence: welcome email (reference the mention to build credibility), delay 2 days, then send value-first content (resource, webinar, or comparison). Set up conditional splits based on engagement: if opened → nurture; if clicked → move to sales queue. Test with a sample webhook payload to confirm emails deliver correctly, then activate the journey. Remember: MentionFox requires you to review and click-to-send every outreach, so use Customer.io's preview and approval tools before messages go live.
Without MentionFox
Without MentionFox, you'd manually search Reddit, LinkedIn, forums, and news sites for relevant conversations—a time-consuming, inconsistent process prone to missed opportunities. You'd rely on slower, less-targeted lead lists from third-party databases, with no real-time intent signal. Customer.io alone is powerful for nurturing, but without MentionFox's listening and enrichment layer, you lack the trigger events and context to know who to reach and when.
