Where this comes from

Every figure here is counted from filings and notices made in the week named, Monday to Sunday (UTC). Funding is read from Form D, the notice a company files with the SEC after selling securities in a private offering; the amount is the amount sold that the form states. Only operating companies are counted: investment funds, insurance accounts, trusts, real estate and financial vehicles are left out, by the industry the form declares and by a fund-shaped name. Layoffs are the employees named in WARN notices, which several states publish when an employer gives notice of a mass layoff or a site closure, and the SEC 8-K filings in which listed companies report an exit or restructuring plan under Item 2.05. IPO filings are first registration statements that state an initial public offering, final prospectuses and requests to withdraw. Executive changes are 8-K filings under Item 5.02 by listed companies whose text reports a departure. Stakes are new Schedule 13D filings, made by anyone who comes to own more than 5% of a listed company's shares and may seek to influence it.
