What a check turns up

What we check, and what we don't

The instant check
  • Money raised, with what was paid to the company's own officers and directors
  • Leadership changes: who joined, who left
  • Layoff and closure notices
  • Acquisitions, crowdfunding offerings and plans to go public
  • Research grants and government contracts

The full check, free after sign-up, adds risks, the people behind the company and court cases on record.

What it does not do
  • No score or rating: you see the records and decide
  • No credit reports or private accounts
  • No reviews or opinions
  • Nothing on record is not a clean bill: many small companies file little

Questions

How can I tell if a company is legit?

Look at what the company has put on record itself: the money it says it raised and when, who joined and left its leadership, layoff notices, deals and court cases. A company with a record you can check, and a record that matches what it tells you, is easier to trust than one with none. The free check shows that record in seconds, each line linked to where it comes from.

Is the company check really free?

Yes. The instant check needs no account and no card. The full check, which adds risks, the people behind the company and court cases, is free too once you sign up. A written Full Report is the only paid part.

Where does the information come from?

From records companies file themselves and official notices: private offering notices, current reports, layoff notices and similar records. Every line links to the record it comes from, so you can read it at the source.

What does it mean if nothing is on record?

Only that we hold no record of that kind for the name. Many small and young companies file little or nothing, and a missing record is neither a warning nor a clean bill. Ask the company for its documents, and run the full check for court cases and the people behind it.

Can I check an investor too?

Yes. Use the Check an investor tab beside the company box to see the funds an investor filed for, the companies it lists as backed and any 5%+ stakes it reported, free and without sign-up.
